Nathan has made a lot of promises about blog content in his day, but mostly all you can expect to read here are uninformed opinions on games and music and possibly the occasional other thing.

About

Filed under: General — Nathan @ 5:26 pm

I’m Nathan Scott.  I just got my Masters degree in Computer Science from UNB.  This is my personal blog.  I generally stay away from anything professional or consequential.  I generally just talk about the music that I’m listening to and the games that I’m playing.  I like to pretend people care!

Smiling Politely began when I decided to move my personal blog off of campus-provided hosting and give it it’s own domain name and commenting abilities and an RSS feed and other fancy then-new-fangled features.  I actually coded everything myself because I felt like it, though the result was a pretty messy structure held together with toothpicks and chewing gum.  SP 1.0 lasted for quite some time, and was actually updated fairly regularly.

After a while, tiring of the ungainly nature of the My-First-PHP-App that was my blogging engine, I decided to do the sensible thing and install some actual blogging software.  SP 2.0 ran on B2Evolution  because… I can’t remember what my reasoning was.  The most notable new feature was the excessive amount of comment spam I then had to struggle with.  The second most notable new feature was the fact that I invited several friends and enemies to co-author the blog, hoping to reduce those periods of lapse where I wasn’t updating myself.  This worked great, until it stopped working great, and nobody but me wrote anything, and I only wrote things rarely.

So I took my toys and went home.  Installed Wordpress just because.  Welcome to Smiling Politely 3.0.

  2. She hates the movie and couldn’t even finish it, apparently. I thought it was OK!
